It’s Reunion Time!

2019 Datapoint/Intelogic Trace Reunion Time!
SAVE THE DATE !

The 2018 Datapoint Reunion will be held Saturday, October 12, 2019 from 12:00 – 4:00 PM. More details to follow!

Communications News:
The Datapoint Remembered Reunion Committee has been working on best methods to communicate with our former co-workers and friends safely and efficiently.

Our www.DatapointRemembered.org Blog/Website has been the method for posting, messages and RSVPs for several years. This is a free service from WordPress.  Due to security vulnerabilities of WordPress, we’re moving our main communications to Facebook.  The website will remain for routine posts.

We explored the features of our Facebook Group Page and found it to be the best option for posting news and signing up for events. Nearly 120 of our former co-workers have joined this Facebook Group!

Those who are not on Facebook yet, please sign up and request to join the group. We are managing this page, and carefully vets sign up requests to ensure we are including true Former Co-workers! In addition, we have closely monitored Facebook’s revised security. Please tell other Datapoint/IT ex’es not on Facebook to at least subscribe to this page.

In summary,
If you are registered on www.DatapointRemembered.org. you will continue to receive future emails through our  reliable list server. Since not everyone is signed up on our Facebook Page we urge people to join it for more current information and to enjoy the posts and photos from ex-colleagues!

Stay tuned for more reunion details and we’ll see you soon!

Datapoint and Intelogic Trace historical preservation event

Please be our guest for a Datapoint and Intelogic Trace historical preservation event. A small group of former Datapoint engineers have combined forces with the goal of launching archive and restoration projects to increase the recognition of Datapoint’s 3.29contribution to the emergence of the personal computer era and helped establish San Antonio as the advanced technology center it is today. With the generous donations of jack.15 2 copy 2   many, we now have a wealth of hardware, software and documentation that is ready to challenge popular industry mythology and clearly establish that the PC revolution started right here in San Antonio. We need support to achieve our goal of raising $20,000 to fund the next step and make sure that the story is forever available to all.

An informative tour and fundraiser will take place at E-Watch Corporation, 23011 W. IH-10 on August 27, 2016, from 10am to 12pm. Come along in your casual Saturday attire, view the collection and learn about this exciting project!  RSVP below.

2015 Datapoint Reunion Enjoyed by All!

70 plus former co-workers gathered to share memories days past at Datapoint and Intelogic Trace!  The party room at the Little Red Barn Steakhouse was buzzing with stories and laughter Saturday, October 17, 2015.dpt

Great food and drinks added to conversations and made for great memories for the group that gathered.  As soon as all photos are received, the memories will be shared with 550 plus subscribers to this site.  A monitor set up by Jim Mathis scrolled through over one thousand photos submitted over the years by former co-workers and friends.

Participants in the Silent Auction left with dinners, theatre tickets, gift baskets and fall home décor as well as many other treasures.

Bob and Cecilia Morgan were the happy winners of the Big Screen TV raffled at the event.  Congratulations!

Special thanks to the Reunion Committee for their planning efforts.  We also want to recognize the management and staff at The Little Red Barn Steakhouse for another event with great service and menu items.  We appreciate their gift cards donated to the Silent Auction!

Not all former members of the Datapoint family were able to attend the reunion.  We extend our best wishes to all who were not present and hope to see you next year.  Without all those who come back year after year and new attendees there wouldn’t be successful gatherings!  Everyone left with more memories of another fun party and “see you next year!” promises!

Happy holidays to all, stay tuned to this site and invite others to register!

Another Great Reunion!

The 2014 Datapoint / Intelogic Trace Reunion proved to be another great meet and greet of old friends, great conversations, great food, and many people picking up as though no time had passed at all ! Visitor’s mingled and chatted in the spacious party room of the Little Red Barn Steakhouse while servers delivered drinks, snacks, or a delightfully delicious meal.

At times, so many people were gathered around chatting you found yourself jumping from one conversation right into another!

We retired the fund-raiser Raffle Ticket drawings this year in favor of a Silent Auction and the lucky winners made off with everything from a signed Tony Parker poster to a Stir-Fry Wok kit. (We’re already thinking about next year’s collection!)

Kudos to Dan Price for rescuing a Datapoint ARCNET Hub and bringing it to the party! We’re forwarding to Austin Roche to support his Datapoint Museum effort.

Of course, not everyone is able to attend reunions here in San Antonio, and we extend warmest greetings and heartfelt best wishes to fellow Datapointers around the globe. We’ll collect event photos as soon as possible and upload to the viewing area.

As the crowd thinned and the festivities wound down, we bade our farewells and promised to see each other next year.

A special thanks to the management and crew at the Little Red Barn Steakhouse, they were wonderful, accommodating, and helped make the event a pleasure for all.

Bittersweet Reunion News

The reunion was a great success this year.  Many thanks to all who helped organize and, of course, all who were able to attend.  For a complete recap, see our latest reunion post.

However, we are sad to report that Tom Peiser passed away Sunday, October 19, 2014.  Tom started the Datapoint Annual Reunions over 12 years ago when former co-workers met at The Hangin Tree Saloon in Bracken, TX.  We are all grateful to Tom for his consistent effort over the years to expand the invited list of former employees.  As the event increased in size and celebration, Tom remained the honorary President and attended the reunions every year since the beginning.  His obituary will be published in the Express News Friday, October 24, 2014.  Tom’s spirit will be felt at future reunions.

Visitation will be held Sunday October 26, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Rd, Universal City, TX 78148.

The funeral will be held at the Colonial Funeral Home Monday, October 27, 2014 at 12:00 PM, with burial services at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.

More Reunion News – We Need You!

During our committee planning meeting, we reviewed the results of last year’s event. Attendance was great, yet financial results were disappointing. Our sole income has been from raffle ticket sales and donations. Both were down last year. In addition to the event itself, we incurred some expense to launch our new web site.
This year, as an alternative to raffle ticket sales, we will hold a silent auction. The committee is working feverishly to collect auction items. Still more are needed! We are asking for donated items appropriate for a silent auction. Gift certificates and cash donations are also welcome. Perhaps your company would like to donate products or services to support this worthy cause. A list of donors will be posted at the reunion and on our web site.

Jim Mathis has agreed to lead this effort and will be happy to hear from anyone who wishes to help. To contact Jim with your commitment or for more information, contact Jim by Email jamesfmathis@sbcglobal.net or phone (210) 374-3375.

October 18th is just around the corner, so contact Jim today!

Are You One of the Missing Pension Recipients?

Many of us are collecting pensions from the company every month like clockwork! — if we did not elect to take the cash offer years ago. The good news is our pension funds were protected by a federal law and have been managed by (PPCG) Pension Benefit Guaranty .

PPCG is a government agency charged with the management of failed pension funds protected by the government. There are unpaid funds waiting for former employees to claim them…my recommendation is check it out!
